What do you appreciate most about your mother?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 13, 2007:
My mother is multiracial. She spent her early childhood in Hawaii before Hawaii became a state. She has a wonderful appreciation and openness about religion and culture. I grew up in rural Pennsylvania and was raised Christian, but she would take to the time to point out the temples and religious statues of other religions to my brother and I when we travelled, especially when we went "home" to Hawaii.
Through her openness and acceptance of other religions, I felt free to explore other religions as I grew older. Eventually I became Buddhist. While the transitions wasn't always easy, I never worried about what Mom would think, because I knew she was open to all religions, especially the mystics of each religion.
She made me laugh one day when she asked me how I ever became Buddhist, because she was the one who took me to Buddhist temples, told me to take of my shoes, and pointed out the Buddha statues to me.
