Attending a Buddhist event, preferably with HHDL but really any Buddhist event would be cool.

Are you more proud of your accomplishments or your character?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 24, 2007:

Depends on when you ask me.  When at work, I would say my accomplishments.  When at a Buddhist temple or zendo, I would say my character.

Names

Posted on Oct 20th, 2007 by Lisa : Aspiring Bodhisattva Lisa
I seem to be acquiring more names as time goes.  I started out as Liza on my birth certificate and then after a few months it was changed to Lisa.  My grandmother's maiden name was II (pronounced ee-ee).  I've often thought about naming my own business in some sort of combination of the many names I seem to have..  The most recently acquired name was my refuge name when I took Buddhist Refuge vows 4 years ago with Khenpo Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche.  Yangchen Lhamo which translates into Wisdom Female Tara.  A big name to live up to if you ask me, my small self.  If I go take the Bodhisattva Vows with the Zen teacher who's led the few Zen retreats I've attended, I'll get another name.

That's a lot of names.  I didn't like my maiden name as a kid so even though I'm a feminist, I was more than happy to take my husband's last name and I've grown fond of my married self.

What one thing do you feel you're an expert in?

Textiles.  Which was my BFA, my masters is in library and information science but aside from being really good at organizing things I don't feel like an expert in information or libraries for that matter.  Isn't that odd.

The Bodhisattva Vows

Just as th Sugatas of the past
Have aroused the Awakened Mind of Bodhicitta,
And trained in the way of the Bodhisattvas,
To gradually accomplish the stages of development,
Similarly for the benefit and purpose of beings,
By awakening the Bodhicitta,
And training in the conduct of the Bodhisattvas,
I shall gradually develop the levels of training.

You will be going on a Zen  Retreat  with Reb Anderson and it will be fabulous.  You will also be going to the hospital and this too will be fabulous in its own demented way.

My best friend, Lisa.  See my friends list.  She's the beautiful redhead blissologist.  We've known each other for almost 20 years now.  We both have the same first name.  We majored in textiles atart school together.  In many ways we are like twin sisters.

The first job I ever wanted was to be an astronaut.  It was also the first "dream" I gave up on.  Yet at the same time I never gave up on it.  Having my picture taken in a spacesuit was a small realization of that dream.  I thought that we would all be vacationing on the moon in Y2K.  Didn't happen but had we carried on developing space travel it could have happened.  A part of me still hopes to one day vacation on the moon.  I'd love to go to Mars.  Part of me thinks this will never happen and yet...

Could you do what you're doing now for the rest of your life?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 26, 2007:

Hmmm...well at 6:00am my alarm went off and I woke up next to me wonderful husband.  I got ready for my pay-the-bills job.  Kissed my hubby goodbye and then worked 4 hours doing displays at the pay-the-bills job.  Then I ran errands; groceries, nail polish, new skectchbook to fill with my journaling and sketching.  Went to lunch with a very good friend and had a mutual whine about work and family.  Went home and painted my fingernails sparkly copper and my toenails deep deep purple while listening to a documentary on Hunter S. Thompson.  (So 2nd tier).  sketched and scribbled loosley while my nails were still wet.  My soy votive candle making supplies arrived just after the H.S.T. doc. was finished.  So now I'm heating soy wax and typing on zaadz while INXS blasts on the stereo.  I'm happy.  I'm dancing to one of my favorite bands and I'm making candles for my altar, for sale and for my buddhist group's altars.  Uhm...yes, I could do this for the rest of my life.
